Reksar Lab
Applied Research for Connected Water Systems.
Reksar Lab is an independent, non-profit applied research group working on water and environmental risk in Indonesia.
We study how rivers and groundwater are linked. We write methods, plan monitoring, and build early research tools so risk is easier to see.

Water and environmental risk
03
Start from the water. Study the whole system. Focus on risk.

05
Monitoring, models, data, and — where they help — machine learning, sensors and digital tools
Why We Exist
The water system is continuous. Information about that system is not.
Flooding, drought, groundwater depletion, contamination and fragmented management are often treated as separate problems. Physically, they are interconnected.

Pollution and contamination

Data gaps and fragmentation
Our Research
Catchment Lab studies rivers and rainfall. Basin Lab studies groundwater. We also study how the two meet.

Our Research Approach
From what we measure to what we can say.
01
Field measurements and monitoring
02
How the water system works
03
Physics and statistics; machine learning only if it helps
04
Forecasts, scenarios and what we do not know
05
What the findings mean for risk
06
New questions from the results
Study areas
We stay with two long-term study areas so we can measure, test methods and go deep — not hop from site to site.

Catchment Lab
Scoping / In Preparation
Ciliwung Catchment Observation Foundation
First rainfall and river measurements and records for Catchment Lab.

Basin Lab
Planned
Jakarta Groundwater Data Availability & Gap Assessment
What groundwater data exists, what is missing, and what can honestly be modelled.
Open Basin Lab →Current Research lists only work that is underway, in scoping, or planned. Long-term research themes are not treated as active projects.
Scoping / In Preparation
Catchment Lab
Setting up rainfall and river-level measurements, checking data quality and showing them on a research map.

Basin Lab
Reviewing groundwater records, wells, aquifers, pumping, recharge and land sinking to decide what we can honestly model.

Connected Water Systems
First research that links the two long-term study areas.

Collaboration
We work with researchers, universities, government, funders, communities and technology partners when that improves data, methods or public findings.
